Recap: Heirloom Tomato Sale & Farm Stand

Last Saturday, we held our annual Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale at the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center. It was a really fun event attended by hundreds of tomato (and wine) lovers. We sold over 100 types of heirloom tomato plants started by our estate gardeners, as well as over 100 types of heirloom tomato seeds. We still have a few plants left, so if you are planning to put tomatoes in your garden this year, just stop by the Wine Center – it’s not too late to purchase some of our wonderful heirloom tomato plants.

It was our first Farm Stand for the summer. Chefs Taki and Brandii worked all night baking fresh bread and delicious pastries for the event. We also had beautiful fresh produce from our estate gardens, such as fava beans, frisée, snow peas, salad greens, spinach, chard, mustard greens and herbs.

One of the highlights of the event was the assortment of local gourmet food trucks that attended: Fork Catering, Karma Bistro, Street-eatz, Dim Sum Charlie’s and Chicago Style Hot Dogs. Their dishes featured produce from our gardens and were paired with our wines. I had a great Chardonnay poached hot dog paired with Avant Chardonnay and some dim sum paired with a glass of Vintner’s Reserve Riesling – it was awesome.

All the cooks from our kitchen came out to enjoy the food and they loved the huge variety that was available. It was a beautiful day, kids were throwing the frisbee and kicking a soccer ball around on the lawn, live music was playing in the background – I already can’t wait for next month’s farm stand; I think I’m going to try the Indian food paired with Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay.

If you missed the first farm stand of the season, don’t worry. We’ll be back on June 4, featuring more great produce, food trucks and breads.
