Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale, Farm Stand & Food Trucks

This Saturday, May 7th, we kick off our summer farm stand series.  On the first Saturday of each month, May through October (excluding September, as our Annual Heirloom Tomato Festival is September 10th) we hold a farm stand at the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center.  Each farm stand features fruits, vegetables, herbs and plant starts from our culinary gardens that are available to purchase and enjoy at home.

One of the highlights at our first farm stand this year will be the annual Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale.  Our gardeners have started over 100 varieties of heirloom tomato plants that are ready to go straight from our garden to yours.  We will also have over 100 varieties of heirloom tomato seeds available, all of which were collected and saved by our gardeners.  Chef Matthew Lowe will also be giving tips on tomato planting and several demos throughout the day.

New this year, we have invited several of our favorite local food truckin’ friends to attend the farm stands.  I’m especially excited about this because their food will be paired with our wines and will feature produce from our gardens.  Food trucks attending the May 7th farm stand will be: Fork Catering, Karma, Street-eatz, Dim Sum Charlie’s and Chicago Style Hot Dogs.

Also featured will be local artisan cheesemakers and our own curd nerd, Tracey “T-Curd” Shepos, who will be sampling and selling local Artisan cheese. Sheana Davis from Epicurean Connection will be the featured cheesemaker at the first farm stand (her Délice de la Vallée cheese won 1st Place in the Fresh Unripened Mixed Milk Cheese category in 2010 by the American Cheese Society).  There will also be delicious fresh baked breads and pastries by Estate bakers, Eric Frischkorn and Brandii Magliulo, as well as our wonderful Kendall-Jackson wines.

This should be a really fun event that the whole family can enjoy.  I hope to see you there!
